Sommelier – Luxury 5* Boutique Hotel – North Coast, KZN
Are you a wine enthusiast with a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences? We are currently seeking a talented and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our client’s team at a prestigious 5-star Boutique Hotel situated on the stunning North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for curating an outstanding wine program, providing expert wine recommendations, and ensuring guests have unforgettable dining experiences. Develop and maintain an extensive wine list, carefully selecting a variety of wines that complement our culinary offerings and cater to our guests’ preferences.
Offer personalized wine recommendations and guidance to guests, ensuring an exceptional dining experience that matches their preferences, taste profiles, and food choices.
Provide education and insights to guests and staff about wine regions, grape varieties, winemaking techniques, and food and wine pairings.
Oversee wine inventory management, including stock rotation, ordering, and maintaining appropriate stock levels to meet guest demand.
Collaborate closely with the culinary team to curate wine pairings for special menus, tasting events, and private functions.
Conduct regular wine training sessions for staff, enhancing their knowledge and understanding of wines to deliver exceptional service.
Stay updated with industry trends, new wine releases, and emerging wine regions to ensure the wine list remains dynamic and appealing.
Establish relationships with wine suppliers and attend wine tastings and industry events to expand your network and source unique wines for the hotel.
Certified Sommelier or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
Proven experience as a Sommelier in a luxury hotel, fine dining restaurant, or reputable wine establishment.
Extensive knowledge of local and international wines, including grape varieties, regions, and vintages.
Strong understanding of food and wine pairings and the ability to recommend suitable wines based on guest preferences and menu selections.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with guests, colleagues, and suppliers.
Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on exceeding guest expectations.
Proficient in wine inventory management and familiar with wine cellar operations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and attention to detail.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
