Lodge Manager – Luxury Lodge – Tanzania

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lodge Manager for our client in Tanzania, East Africa. The ideal candidate will have extensive management experience in a luxury lodge or hospitality setting, a passion for guest service, and a commitment to community and environmental sustainability. This role is integral to ensuring exceptional guest experiences and overseeing the efficient operation of the lodge.


As a Lodge Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management and operation of the lodge, including guest relations, staff management, and financial oversight. You will build and maintain relationships with staff, guests, governmental entities, and the community. Your role will involve working closely with various departments to ensure a high standard of service and guest satisfaction. You will also be involved in community development and wildlife conservation efforts, working alongside relevant foundations and organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with staff, guests, governmental entities, and the community.
  • Collaborate with the Africa Foundation in community development and wildlife conservation initiatives.
  • Ensure business efficiencies, including cost control and quality product delivery.
  • Maintain and enhance the lodge’s structures and procedures.
  • Develop and improve guest experiences, including food and game experiences.
  • Regularly assess operational equipment, vehicles, generators, and buildings.
  • Engage with the union and personnel regularly.
  • Manage and support all departments and support managers.
  • Oversee budget creation and management, including CAPX structuring and planning.
  • Manage daily operations of the lodge, including front desk, back of house, staff quarters, and community surroundings.
  • Hold daily meetings with heads of departments to discuss plans and guest-related activities.
  • Create and implement strategies for guest delight, staff welfare, health and safety, and training.
  • Develop and maintain skills development plans and training programs.
  • Manage human resources, including labor relations, leave, and medical funds.
  • Work with the Executive Chef to ensure quality menu and food standards.
  • Assess, plan, budget, and repair all buildings and equipment.
  • Monitor and coach heads of departments and junior managers.
  • Host guests, agents, media, and VIP groups.
  • Manage staff uniforms and orders.
  • Attend management meetings and keep the region informed on lodge stories.
  • Oversee staff delight activities and participate in community development projects.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for lodge staff.
  • Ensure all staff files are up to date.



  • At least 10 years of management experience in a 5-star operation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Hotel Management, or a related field.
  • Strong financial capabilities.
  • A degree in Food and Beverages is an added advantage.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think laterally and take initiative.
  • Ability to cope under pressure to meet guests’ needs.
  • Attention to detail and self-motivated to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to share information and teach others.
  • Proficient in computer and financial skills.
  • Priority given to candidates with Food and Beverage knowledge.

Previous Work Experience:

  • Experience in the service industry, particularly with guests and staff.
  • Previous experience running a five-star operation with over 40 beds.
  • At least 10 years of management experience in East Africa.
