Beautiful, Relais & Chateau wine estate in Stellenbosch is seeking an experienced Junior Sommelier to provide excellent service to ensure great customer satisfaction.

The main responsibility of Junior Sommelier is to delight our guests by helping them choose the best wine to complement their fare.

Responsibilities:

Main duties:
• Assist the team on the restaurant floor with service to guests
• Advise guests on wines based on their personal tastes and food choices
• Learn all food and wine pairings being offered
• Assist in guiding guests through the wine list – inform them about different varieties of wines and prices
• Ensure wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware
• Store open bottles properly
• Adhere to the Quality Management System
• Maintain standards of hygiene and cleanliness in all wine displays, stock holding, decanter and service areas
• Assist the head sommelier with maintaining all stock levels
• Ensure that all stock rooms are kept clean, neat and tidy
• Ensure that all stock rooms are packed according to your stock sheet to assist with stock take
• Ensure that all wine service areas are set up and ready for service
• Assist the team to ensure that all beverages sold are charged correctly on POS
• When taking part in any form of wine tasting prior or during shift, always make use of a spittoon
• All tastings must be arranged with your direct manager

Stock Control:

• Assist the head sommelier to maintain adequate beverage stock levels
• Report all low or out of stock items to the head sommelier
• Assist in receiving beverage stock deliveries
• Ensure that the walk-in fridge is in a good state and all beverage stock deliveries are unpacked onto correct shelves
• Assist with the responsibility of safe keeping of all bar stock
• Assist management with stock taking of beverage stock
• Assist in wastage control of all beverages
• Assist in capturing all stock transfers

Requirements:

• Grade 12
• Hospitality certificate/WSET certificates
• 2 years previous wine tasting/wine steward experience;
• Basic knowledge of wine & surrounding wine regions
• Hands-on experience with cash register and ordering information system
• Basic math skills
• Excellent interpersonal- & communication skills
• Strong customer service orientation and active listener
• Attentive and patience for customers
• Comfortable in dealing with very distinguished clientele
• Must be well-presented
• Flexibility and Accountability
• Enthusiastic personality
