Are you a wine enthusiast with a passion for creating unforgettable dining experiences? Join our client’s team at their captivating luxury lodge nestled in the Soutpansberg. They’re seeking a talented Junior Sommelier to assist in managing their exceptional wine program and delight their discerning guests with expert recommendations and pairings.

Description:

As a Junior Sommelier, you’ll assist the Executive Chef and General Manager in all aspects of wine program management, from selection and purchasing to inventory control. Your responsibilities include delivering exceptional guest service, maintaining a deep understanding of the wine list, and cultivating a welcoming environment for wine discovery. You’ll also contribute to wine-related events, tastings, and educational programs while ensuring the highest standards of service and presentation in the restaurant.

• Assist in wine program management, including selection, purchasing, pricing, and inventory control.
• Provide knowledgeable recommendations and pairing suggestions tailored to individual preferences.
• Maintain a deep understanding of the wine list and global wine regions.
• Cultivate a welcoming environment for guests, fostering a passion for wine discovery.
• Assist with wine-related events, tastings, and educational programs.
• Maintain and update wine inventory.
• Work closely with waiting and bar staff, assisting with service during lunch and dinner.
• Uphold proper wine service techniques, including opening, decanting, and pouring.

Requirements:

• Matric with minimum English and Math Literacy.
• Minimum WEST Level 1 certification or equivalent qualification in wine knowledge.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a high-end 4-5* hotel or lodge with a focus on fine dining.
• Creativity, attention to detail, and mixology certification highly advantageous.

Compensation: Dependent on experience but will include lodging and meals during time at camp. Due to the location of camp, all staff will work on a rotational basis, likely 6-8 weeks on and 10-14 days off.
