Head Chef – Upmarket Restaurant – Cape Town

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Head Chef to join their dynamic team at a renowned restaurant in Cape Town. As Head Chef, you will lead the kitchen brigade in delivering exceptional culinary experiences, showcasing creativity, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and consistency.

Description:

  • Develop innovative menus reflecting culinary trends, seasonal ingredients, and the restaurant’s Mediterranean identity
  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking techniques, and plating presentations
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and stock control to minimise waste and maintain cost efficiency
  • Lead and motivate the kitchen team, providing training, guidance, and constructive feedback
  • Ensure all dishes leaving the kitchen meet the restaurant’s quality standards and adhere to food safety regulations
  • Collaborate closely with management to achieve business goals, maintain profitability, and enhance guest satisfaction
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting creativity, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Proven track record as a Head Chef or Executive Chef in a high-volume restaurant, preferably with experience in Mediterranean cuisine
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor a diverse team of culinary professionals
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities, capable of multitasking and prioritising effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Mediterranean cuisine, ingredients, cooking techniques, and flavour profiles
  • Familiarity with food safety standards and regulations, with a commitment to upholding the highest levels of hygiene and sanitation
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues across various departments
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to meet business needs
  • Culinary qualifications or certifications preferred, but not essential for candidates with extensive relevant experience
