Guest House Manager – 3* Guest House – Edgemead, Cape Town

Our Client, a quaint and cozy guest house in the leafy suburbs of Cape Town is looking for a friendly and organized individual to manage the guest house’s operations, coordinate staff, satisfy guest needs and expectations, and promote the property.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an experienced Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the guest house, as well as plan and take steps to promote the business to potential and existing guests. This includes planning and supervising the activities of the team to ensure the smooth and profitable running of the business. You will be involved in all aspects of the guest house’s operations and will be just as responsible for dealing with complaints as for preparing reports. You will also be a key point of reference for employees and guests, as well as external vendors. You will guide employees to work as a well-functioning team and, therefore, you will be a team player and an effective leader who is able to set examples and foster a climate of cooperation. Your mission is to enhance customer dedication and expand the guest house’s customer-base by strengthening its reputation.

  • Supervise work at all levels (housekeeping, maintenance) and set clear objectives
  • Plan activities and allocate responsibilities to achieve the most efficient operating model
  • Manage budgets/expenses, analyze and interpret financial information and monitor sales and profits
  • Develop and implement an intuitive and efficient marketing strategy to promote the hotel’s services
  • Communicate with customers when appropriate (welcome them in the facilities, address their complaints, find solutions to problems, offer information, etc)
  • Deal with maintenance issues, shortages in staff or equipment, renovations, etc
  • Collaborate with external parties such as suppliers, travel agencies, event/conference planners, etc
  • Inspect facilities regularly and enforce strict compliance with health and safety standards
  • Understand the needs of the different customer types and providing differential treatment
  • Create a relationship based on availability and personalisation between guests and the guest house team to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Creating unexpected magical moments for the guests
  • Encourage guest feedback, follow up and analyze their comments
  • Implement corrective action with regard to guest comments (e.g. training)
  • Keeping the guest house up to standard (hygiene, comfort, providing what we promised the guest)
  • Being the sales contact of the Guest House

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a guest house manager or relevant role
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus
  • Understanding of hospitality management best practices and relevant laws and guidelines
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; knowledge of reservations management software (PMS) and online booking platforms
  • Excellent customer service skills as well as a business mindset
  • Sales acumen / persuasive
  • Competent team manager
  • Well organized and methodical
  • Good at internal and external networking
  • Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • Reliable with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
  • Great attention to detail
