Assistant General Manager – Luxury Lodge – Tanzania

A luxury lodge in Tanzania is seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant General Manager. Description:

The Assistant General Manager will support the General Manager in all aspects of lodge management. This includes building relationships with staff, guests, and the community, overseeing business efficiencies, and enhancing the guest experience. The role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, product development, and team engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the General Manager with relationship building among staff, guests, governmental entities, the community, and industry partners.
  • Work with Foundations in community development and proactive wildlife conservation.
  • Support cost control measures, local procedures, and product quality.
  • Maintain and enhance construction, understanding, and adherence.
  • Develop guest experience elements including lodge, food, and game experiences.
  • Engage with staff, promote a positive culture, and manage expectations.
  • Regularly assess and ensure the functionality, efficiency, and strength of all operational equipment, vehicles, generators, and buildings.
  • Engage with the Unions and personnel.
  • Cover all General Manager duties during their absence.
  • Support the Hospitality Manager and his departments.
  • Ensure effective management and running of the lodge, elevating service standards.
  • Create and manage budgets, CAPEX structuring, and planning.
  • Oversee daily lodge operations, including guest arrivals, departures, maintenance, and special requests.
  • Strategize for guest delight, staff welfare, health and safety, and training.
  • Implement and manage annual and monthly training plans for all departments.
  • Develop and maintain skills development plans.
  • Ensure continuous visibility and adherence to the lodge’s golden standards.
  • Manage all human resources aspects, including labor relations, leave, and medical funds.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef to align menus and food quality with lodge standards.
  • Assess, plan, budget, and repair all buildings and equipment.
  • Work with department heads to maintain service standards and manage costs.
  • Monitor and coach HODs and junior managers.
  • Host agents, media, and VIP groups.
  • Manage uniform issues and orders for all staff.
  • Attend management meetings and keep the region informed about lodge stories.
  • Manage staff delight activities and participate in community development projects.
  • Assist in conducting performance appraisals for lodge staff.
  • Ensure staff files are up to date.

Requirements:

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of management experience in a 5-star operation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Hotel Management, or a related field.
  • Strong financial capabilities.
  • Energetic, proactive, and committed to providing a world-class guest experience.
  • Compassionate, respectful, and a strong leader with excellent communication skills.
  • Lateral thinking ability and initiative.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet guests’ needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and deadline-oriented.
  • Willingness to share information and inspire others.
  • Computer and financial skills.
  • F&B knowledge is a plus.

Previous Work Experience:

  • Experience in the service industry, particularly in guest and staff interactions.
  • Previous experience running a five-star operation with over 40 beds.
  • At least 5 years of management experience in East Africa.

  • This is a permanent live-in position, based in Tanzania.
